Reconstruction in South Sudan

How's it going, delegates! The WHO dais and I know that the time to write position papers has come and that the deadline is approaching very quickly. We also know that it might be difficult to get adjusted to and get thinking about your assigned country's perspective and possible solutions to the exciting committee topics this year. To give you delegates something tangible to think about and brainstorm, I found an excellent article about the need for healthcare and subsequent reconstruction in South Sudan (please note that despite the date of the article, this healthcare struggle is still currently occurring), which is linked here:  https://www.hcs.harvard.edu/hghr/online/securing-health-care-in-war-zones/ Some key questions to consider when reading this article are "How important is healthcare education in my assigned country?", "Is education a feasible solution to healthcare infrastructure issues in my country (if there are indeed any) and why?", and

Very Helpful Position Paper Guidelines

Hello, delegates! Please make sure to visit http://www.bmun.org/position-papers/ to find the official position paper guidelines. For WHO specifically, we have a few very helpful guidelines that you should follow in order to write a thorough paper. For the first topic, the Acceleration of Global Disease Eradication, be sure to address at least one disease (either one that was mentioned in the topic synopsis or one that is very relevant to your country or region) and create specific solutions for that disease. Every disease has a unique set of characteristics, so be sure to include solutions that are specific and tailored to a disease (or multiple diseases if you are an overachiever!) For the second topic, the Rehabilitation of Health Structures in Conflict-Affected Zones, try to address what your nation perceives to be a few of the most important parts of rebuilding a damaged health system. For example, if loss of medical personnel and the utilization of horizontal vs. vertical p

Vice Chair Introduction: Sabina Nong

Hi Delegates! My name is Sabina Nong, a second year political science major/political economy minor at Cal. I am from Shanghai, China. It’s been a wonderful experience to enjoy my college time in a different culture and also to experience MUN with people from all kinds of backgrounds ;)  I enjoy reading, traveling and watching TV series in my spare time. My favorite book is Catch 22 by Joseph Heller and my favorite author is Jorge Luis Borges.  For TV series, I love Bojack Horseman, Rick and Morty, West Wing and my current fav is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel :D. Although I am a Political Science major and do not know a lot about biology, the super informative topic synopsis and abundant research help me to be more grounded in this timely discussion of disease eradication and rehabilitation of healthcare system. It has been such a great fun for me to be in WHO and I hope you enjoy as much as I do!  Can't wait to see you guys in March and happy researching!!

Vice Chair Introduction: Dhruv Mandal

Image
Hello delegates! My name is Dhruv Mandal and I'm honored to be serving as a Vice Chair for the World Health Organization (WHO) this year at conference! As of right now, I am a freshman studying public health and political science at UC Berkeley and this is my first year with the BMUN organization. When I was in high school in New Jersey, one of my most cherished activities was delegating and chairing with my state's chapter of YMCA Model United Nations, and I am blessed to be able to further my love for international relations in college. Outside of BMUN, I am a caseworker for the Suitcase Clinic, a nonprofit that provides holistic services for the homeless, and I am a volunteer clerk for the Centerforce Youth Court, a leading reentry service provider in San Francisco.  Personally, I love the study of medicine and public health because it forces society as a whole to re-evaluate the spread of disease and make necessary upgrades to health infrastructure with the goal of be

Vice Chair Introduction: Himaja Jangle

Hello Delegates! My name is Himaja Jangle and I am extremely excited to be serving as your Vice Char for the World Health Organization this year!  I am currently a third year Economics major at Berkeley and have been part of BMUN for 6 years now. Being from the Bay, I thoroughly enjoyed attending BMUN as a delegate in high school and was super excited when I got the opportunity to join BMUN and serve as part of the Secretariat in college. Outside of BMUN, I am involved in Project Smile, a mentoring organization with a local middle school as well as Voyager Consulting. When I’m not studying or participating in my extra-curriculars, you can usually catch me enjoying boba or any of Berkeley’s amazing food with my friends.    I'm sure that if has become apparent that despite being a Vice Chair of WHO, I do not have a strong background in biology and the health field. But, the topics that Stacey, our Head Chair, has chosen are super relevant to anyone today. I am super ex
